About the Artists

Ruth Leonela Buentello-  Ruth received her Bachelors of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2008. Since graduating she stayed committed to exhibiting her work in group exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago, Self Help Graphics in Los Angeles, California, the Museo Alameda in San Antonio, Texas, the Slanguage Studio in Los Angeles, California, The University of Texas at San Antonio Fine Arts Gallery, Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, Texas, and Unit B Gallery in San Antonio, Texas. Her first solo exhibition was at the Southwest School of Arts  in 2009. In 2009, she in collaboration with four like-minded artists founded the Mas Rudas collective . Through Mas Rudas her work has evolved to explore the sociocultural examinations of Chican@ identity, cultural representations of gender, and the co-optation of Chican@/Tejan@/Latin@ history and culture. In 2010, she received an Artist Travel Grant from Artpace to study the art of Nikki de Saint Phalle in Italy and France. In 2011, she was chosen to participate in the Young Latino Artists 16 Thought Cloud Exhibition at Mexic-Arte Museum.

joey phd-  A native San Antonnian (Holmes High School graduate 99′) and UT Austin ACTLab college geek (BS,MA, PhD), joey is a mix of multiple cultures, social spaces and talents.  His works range from advanced computer consulting, anthropology,  feminism, queer studies,  cyberliberties, opensource platforms, apps, ibooks, academia conferences, barcamps, fun having, internet art, automotive photography/video and much more.

His favorite activity is collaborating.  His personality exudes this through his participatory work in multiple social and cultural scenes as a facilitator and general participant.

Currently joey is a tenure track professor at the University of Incarnate Word where he is in charge of the Convergent Media concentration in the Communication Arts Department, under the School of Media & Design.
